Beast Magics
Rodger,
Your assumption is correct. There is very little in common with Lesser
Summonings. In fact, there is only one summoning spell in my Beast
Magics. Beast Mages detest Summoners. Summoners force the beasts to
their command, while Beast Mages seek to become one with the beasts, even
calling upon their inner beast. Beast Mages instead seek to cooperate
with the beasts only accepting their service if it is voluntary.
My inspiration for the college comes from Stephen R. Donaldson's Thomas
Covenant Triology. Those familiar with that series will remember an
unfettered one in the first book that led a band of small animals in
defense of the wraiths.
The college isn't going to pack the punch that Fire Magics does in
combat, but it will be a great roleplaying college. The Beast Mages
combat strengths will be in unarmed combat and close combat. I'm hoping
to play test it soon against my group's party.
I think the best place for Beast Magics is in the Entities branch.
I'll try to have it finished in the next week or so. Once I'm done, I
can submit it to the DQ community for comment(Open Source, DQ Newsletter,
etc.).
Send me any more questions you have and I'll answer them as I can.
