Re: [dq-rules] Playing?

Hello, Ian.

In terms of the question as to whether anyone even plays anymore, I am involved in an active group that plays DQ every Sunday. I'm only 20 myself, but my group is quite a bit older and got me hooked on this rules system (3.5 D&D sucks). I mainly use this group for things like monster statistics, magical items, and the like, and in that spirit, I offer a few demons I wrote up for 3rd Edition DQ in the hopes that others may share their hard work.

Well, you might want to see what I'm working on right now, a new mosnter supplement for DQ as part ofa more ambitious magic system rework for a new type of campaign setting inspired by the computer stratgey game Dominions 2: The Ascension Wars. It has dozens of new (and mostly rather powerful) creatures. Not quite finished yet, but maybe in a week or two.

<snip monster descriptions>

The dretch sounds like agood addition for demonic fodder, as even the imps are rather formidable in DQ. DQ already has a succubus in the 2E, so yours is redundant and frankly worse in execution than the existing one. The Kyton is more interesting, but probably not something I would personally use. If you like your monsters to have less of a cookie cutter feel, give their stats a range (e.g. PS: 18 - 25) like all non-unique creatures in DQ have, so that there is variation between individual creatures. It's easy to construct a few generic templates and then apply a mix of them when a party encounters a group of critters, and then all of them aren't predictable.
